Where is the cheapest place i can go to get a new key made?

i went to the dealership i bought it from *Cabe Toyota in Long Beach* and they told me if i had a master key, it would only cost $100... but because i dont have a master key, they are trying to charge me $900 to make a new master key. (since they have to reset the computer chip in the key/engine)(

ANOTHER OPTION PLEASE?!

can i break the mechanism that makes the computerchipkey necessary? I have a normal blank key that unlocks the car/steering wheel but wont start the car because it doesn't have the chip.

Toyota used to have a policy to replace that ecu one time if the customer lost the keys. that policy was out in 2001 although they did not cover the cost of labor it just covered the cost of the unit if your the original owner I would ask them about this.

The ecu stores a registered key without a registered key you cannot access the ecu. It's really a stupid design. the price sounds about right there not jacking you or nothing.

Check around some of your more established locksmiths in your area. There is a programmer called bluechip pro that reflashes the chip in the ecu.I'm not saying they could do this much cheaper just another option to check out.

That was an optional transponder from I think 98-01 on that car. Good luck
