Question:
2007 Toyota Tundras?

Wanted to buy this truck but thinking of ditching the idea because of recent crash test ratings. Toyota's new Tundra gets 4 stars.

Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram, GMC Sierra, and even Nissian Titan all got 5-star safety ratings.

So with the new Tundras getting 4 stars, that's actually a bad thing given that it is a full-sized pickup.

I have no doubt that Toyota makes reliable vehicles. But they just keep sucking on the safety of their vehicles (with the exception of the Camry and the Highlander). What's up with that!

Wouldn't the publication of the 4-star safety rating by NHTSA lower the value of this truck, given that the competition got the expected 5-star in crash tests?

I wouldn't be worried about the 1 star in that truck. But what I would be worried about is the engine failures that they have with the 5.7's, something like the crankshaft splitting. Huh, Toyota reliability right. Give me an American truck any day over that pile.

The new Tundra's are great trucks but yes they dont match the competitors in a few areas... I recently read a Popular Mechanics article and it placed Nissan Titan 1st the Tundra 2nd and silverado 3rd also that is the 2007 Titan vs the 08 versions of the other 2 the ford and dodge placed 4th and 5th...

And to that comment ahead 1 star is a huge difference in safety... thats like saying my car has a 1 star rollover rating but if it was 2 star it would still roll over..... c'mon people thats why they have 5 stars to rate from!

Tundra is 20 times better than Ford. You are about 100 times more likely to get into an accidennt in the first place in the Ford due to brake failure or other mechanical failure. I would be scared to if I had to ride in a Ford. Crash test studies only look at a car after a crash. It does not look at the chances of getting into that crash in the first place. Plus the tests are done in the US and there is a bias against foreign cars and I do not mean the bias against the Yugo. I am serious. Do yourself a favor buy the Toyota and whatsoever do NOT buy the Ford.

As far as full size trucks go, Ford is the leader of the pack as far as reliability goes. Toyota makes a good car, but they don't have the same truck building experience as the Americans. Take Nissan for example, the first two years of the Titan, it was twice as unreliable as any American truck. Now it still isn't as reliable as the Ford or Dodge trucks.

One star isn't that big a deal. The Tundra will still have the highest resale value and it will still outlive the others. Noone can deny that these trucks are reliable. Those crash test ratings are so overrated. In a real world condition, you might walk away from a collision that the crash rating said that you wouldn't walk away from. I'd still spend the money if i was looking.

theyre good cars, and a stupid 1 star difference shouldnt deter you from buying one.

The standardized crash tests arent particularly realistic anyways, so the ratings should be taken with a grain of salt.

compared to a truck 10 years ago, its far safer. A 4 star rating is still very good.

I wouldnt wory about it.

Dealer is wrong. Everything I've driven car or truck, manual or auto idles between 600 and 700 rpm's.

In my opinion the safety rating of a truck is not as important as its performance. If you feel that is an unsafe vehicle don't buy it. But just because it got four stars instead of five does not make it an unsafe truck.

4 star is still average or maybe above average, i don't know, but all i know is it could be worse, 4 star isn't bad. Toyota's Reliablity vs. Ford , GM or Dodge is way more important than a 1 star difference.

Is one star really that big of a difference? Those new Tundra's are nice! I'd either get one of those or a Nissan Titan.
