Is a 2005 Toyota Matrix a good family car?

My mom is looking for an SUV, but want's it's handling to be as a car. basically a car-based SUV but she's scared of SUV's flipping over so she want's something lower to the ground. Shecame across a Toyota Matirx and likes it. It seems to have good feul economy and is very versitle

It depends on how big of a family you have. The toyota is a good car, but it won't work if you have 5 young siblings. Most people "think" they need a huge car while they can get by with a smaller car. we are just spoiled. Be happy if we have a car, it beats walking.

Normally i would recommend rav4, but as in your case rav4 is '02 model while matrix is '03-'05. In this light i would recommend you the matrix as it is newer than rav4. But you must check the conditon of the vehicle before you purchase it, whichever is better of the 2. Corolla is just a sedan, not feasible for your growing family. We loved our but my mother had problems getting in and out due to knee problems so she opted for a Camry later. But the Matrix should be fine for a family of four.
