I have a 2002 Toyota Camry and I need help popping the hood?

i recently got into a little fender bender. and I want to pop the hood of my car. I reach near my drivers side to pop the hood and hear the initial click. but when i go around to the front to lift. the lock doesn't unlock. I am pulling on the trigger at the front of the hood of the car while trying to open but it wont release. I need to know how I can do this myself. can someone show me a diagram or tell me what I need to do to open the hood. I have to prep it to take to an autoshop to run a smog test.

Try pushing downward on the hood to reset the latch. Then try it again. If you can find someone to hold it down while you pull the latch, all the better.

sounds like the cable that attaches from the latch is stuck or broken; you need to look inside the area where the latch is to see what is obstructed and try to release the latch from there
