I believed you mentioned the Matrix 2.4 liter engine before in another question. That engine is used in the XRS model. The Matrix is a Corolla wagon. The 2009-2012 Corolla XRS uses the same engine and transmisisons. That really is the only option you have at this time. Don't waste your money. Sell your S model and buy an Corolla XRS. It willbe cheaper than swapping that engine into your S. There are other differences with the XRS. It will have four wheel disc brakes (the S has rear drums), upgraded wheels and tires, and an upgraded suspension. The transmissions are even different. The manual on the XRS has 6 gears; The S has 5 gears. There is a 5 speed automatic option; whereas the S has the old 4 speed automatic unit. Essentially, the Corolla Matrix XRS uses the 4 cylinder Camry's engine and trannies. Older 2005-2007 XRS models used the 2ZZGE from the 2000-2005 Celica GT-S and were offered with a 6 speed manual only, but as great as those are, I'd still recommend the torquier 2.4 engine for this platform. Sell yours and buy an XRS instead. The Corolla S is an LE underneath with XRS cosmetics. The XRS is the car the S should've been.
