Well it would depend on what model and where I was living at the time.
Subaru Legacy is a bigger, heavier car with constant four wheel drive so it's heavy on fuel.It also has a normally-aspirated four cylinder boxer engine which is has plenty of low down torque rather than responsive but it will rev to 5500-6000 rpm if you push it.
Obviously the turbo charged engine from the WRX/STi Impreza is a performance engine, there's also twin turbo charged,2.5 or 3.0 6 cylinder and even supercharged models.
If you live in a rural area,do a lot of carrying or towing or long journeys on trunk roads or motorways then the Subaru is an ideal car, either that or you've got deep pockets.I had a 2.0 LX legacy and it did no more than mid 20's,maybe 27 mpg driving 40 plus miles to work daily,in city/town driving it was less than that !!!
The Corolla is you're standard 4 or 5 door front wheel drive somewhere around Astra/Escort/Almiera sized car.Easy to drive, bulletproof mechanicals, great on fuel it's a lot more suited to a town/city lifestyle expect high 30's even 40mpg on average !!!
Of course if you're talking a Corolla from the late 70's early 80's it's a classic car.lol
