Is there ANY reason you are unable to consult the owner's manual, the dealership, the sticker under the hood, the engine oil dipstick or filler cap, or any of hundreds of free online resources????
Type: synthetic preferred.
API grade: SN or newer.
Viscosity: 5W-20 or 0W-20 in cold climates.

I would recommend you use the best 100% Synthetic Oil in the World AMSOL, AMSOIL goes 25,000 miles on the same oil and filter as well as giving you a 6% savings in fuel. For your 2004 TOYOTA MATRIX 1.8L 4-cyl Engine Code [R] 1ZZ-FE You need:
5 Quarts of SAE 5W-30 Signature Series 100% Synthetic Motor Oil (ASLQT)
1 Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter (EA15K09)

It's 5-30w oil. I use Mobile 1 full synthetic with fram ulta filter and change it every 6,000 miles.. my car has 200,000 miles on it. It's a 2003

ILSAC multigrade SYNTHETIC OIL should be used, or MOBIL ONE 0W-30 oilto SAVE ON GAS and get LONGER engine life! The 1.8 liter GAS ENGINE is an accessory to the HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM! It MAY even be an ATKINSON CYCLE ENGINE here! REG OIL is BAD for ALL ENGINES but the venerable MAZDA ROTARY one! NBRID cars are NOT FULLY ELECTRICAL! The NISSAN LEAF IS andmaybe the VOLT< but I ahve NO interest in GM PRDDUCTS at all! BYE NOW!
