Im a 16 year old guy, Im looking to get a first car. I really like the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Ive done my research, and what Ive gathered is that its a pretty good car, Toyota quality, good ride on and off road. The negatives are that it has average at-best gas mileage and poor rear visibility, creating large blind spots. Are these faults enough of a problem as to not buy an FJ Cruiser? I understand for a young driver like myself, the blind spot thing is a legitimate concern. Do you know if the FJ has blind spot monitor or something of the sort? But all in all, do you think the FJ Cruiser would be a good first car for me? And if your gonna come on here and bitc* about how bad the FJ Cruiser is, well it aint, and I dont want to hear it either.

It depends entirely on how you plan on using it. Build quality and reliability are high. Its strength is off-road capability, with the short wheelbase, flexy rear suspension and availability of the rear differential locker and A-TRAC system.

That said, if you plan on using it mostly on the road, the fuel economy, firm, jouncy ride and blind spots can make things difficult. It does have pretty significant blind spots in the rear corners due to the large rear pillars, and rearward visibility is limited due to the high back window and exterior spare tire. If you do get an FJ, plan on making use of its off-road ability. If you stay on the road, you might think of choosing a crossover or something more street-worthy instead.

Do some test-driving and see what you think. It's a niche vehicle--it's not for everyone, but spending some time in and around one will likely give you the best indication of whether or not it's the vehicle for you.

great car. not the best gas mileage but so what. rear vision not a problem. that's what they make mirrors for. also you could add a back up camera for very little cost. go for it.........
