Do some research on its history and take it to a mechanic to get checked out, as long as nothing shady pops up I say go for it. I bought a '97 Rav4 with 145,000 for $5000 2 years ago. I talked to several family friends who are mechanics before I bought mine and they all said it was a great idea 145,000 is nothing for a Toyota. My car now has 175,000 and it's still going strong. I had to have some exhaust work done last year, but that was due to rust which wasn't terribly shocking after 10 years of WI winters. I couldn't have asked for a better car for me. Its size is perfect, and it's absolutely amazing in the winter. I left my car at my parents for a few months over the winter since I didn't have parking during bans. They both loved it and decided they're getting one when they get a new car. As long as previous owners took decent care of it, I'd say go for it.
