It was the Toyoda Toyopet.Toyoda (yes,thats what they were called back then because the founders name was "Toyoda".It was changed to Toyota because it looked more acceptable in English writing).

It was the very early 60s,and Toyoda officials were dismayed when VW Beetles passed by them on the California freeway.This told them that they had to upgrade their product to be acceptable in America.When they improved the Toyopet and could finally pass some Beetles themselves,only then did they know they had arrived in America.
