The Fj Cruiser is probably border-line as far as being a true family car. The back doors are what used to be called 'suicide doors' (they open backward, with the hinge toward the back of the car and the door latch at the mid/center-post of the car). A lot of people say that the door opening seems smallish - not standard-sized. Due to this they might be a little awkward as far as reaching in and lifting out a baby in a ar seat. There isn't a lot of leg-room in the back, but your baby won't care for a while, so that's not a big concern. If you have the infant car seat that you intend to use for your new baby, take that to the dealership with you and actually put it in the car. See what it takes/how easy it is to reach in with the baby car seat to clip it into and out of the base, keeping in mind that you'll have a baby in it so you won't be free to tilt and maneuver it a lot in as you latch it into the base and remove it from the base. That will be the best test for whether or not it'll work for you and your family as your 'family 'car.

And congrats on the upcoming arrival of your baby.

I just got a fj last month. It takes the baby seat in the back, but i wouldnt want it for a family car, with a new born. My friends say its not roomy in the back, and its hard to get into. The doors open opposite from the regular doors and it is hard to close from the inside, the back windows dont go down, and when the people in the back are getting down the people in the front have to take off thier seat belts. Im 18 with no kids, and its kinda hard to carry my friends around, so i dont really see it as a family vehicle.

Hope i helped

Jo!!!
