Yes - Camry's are known for their above average reliability and ease of operation. A well maintained one will last several hundred thousand kms. It is one of the best cars to buy used.

Listen to Michelle.... who (at 19) probably knows little to nothing about cars. She will guide you in the right direction. I mean why would you want a boring Camry that is well built? After all, that 1999 Camry will still be running when her crappy VW has bitten the dust (and it will soon). You don't want a car that will last forever. Buy one that will make you buddy/ buddy with your mechanic; The kind of car that starts having electrical issues within the first three years. They will love you for it. It's good to make new friends and your mechanic will have dollars signs in his eyes when you pull into the shop in a Jetta.

Sarcasm aside, the 1999 Camry isn't a good car... it's a great car. If you want a car that gives a lot and asks for little in return, you can't do too much better than a Camry. BTW, if you want reliability, that 14 year old Camry probably has another 14 years of life left in it.

A bit late in coming but, should be good regardless. I am now on my 2nd camry. I bought a 92' new and drove it 112,500 miles and 8.0 years (purchased in fall 91' when they first came out) with little issue. I then proceeded to buy my current, 1999 Camry LE, 4 cylinder.

I have 193,000 miles on it and counting. This one, if you can believe it, was even better than the last. I am an owner of 2 camry's which had/have provided near bullet-proof performance and reliability for the past 21 years....and counting.

I've owned Honda's, Fords, Chevy's, Chrysler's, and an old 1967 bug when I was stationed in Hawaii in 79-81.....

In short, you will find no better car for the money than the Toyota Camry, period. It's fine to drive the VW if you wish, just be prepared for electrical and transmission problems over time.

Toyota has damn near perfected the automobile. Are there duds from time to time? Sure, but considering just how MANY they stamp out each year I would say they lead the entire automotive pack by 80-90 percent. They ARE that good.

Usually when I read of stalling problems or see them on the web, the videos bely the maintenance. None. If you take care of them (i.e. CHANGE the oil, replace the timing belt every 100K with the waterpump, flush the transmission every 50K, and try not to jump curbs the reliability will amaze you.

The history of this one?

Repairs: Starter finally went out at 11.5 years...I'm in outside sales (start stop, start stop....repeat) so....there's.....that......

Original transmission which shifts beyond smooth, ice cold air and replaced the dryer....once.....power windows, door handles, and locks have NEVER failed, engine does not burn nor leak oil as I have run Mobile 1 since "birth".....4 sets of brakes, finally on my 3rd battery this summer (the original lasted 8.5 years in hot climates, 2nd, a die hard, lasted 6 more and finally, replaced it with another die hard this summer....I'm more than pleased......

To be sure, this is not the most exciting car you will ever drive but, I am willing to bet, as you age, you won't be looking for "excitement" either, just an auto appliance that gives good mileage (22/25 in town, 30/31 on the road...STILL!!!!) and uber reiliability (you don't want headaches when young, you will despise them as you age) and a car the dealers beg to come in for non-needed service....I do change the oil, filters, fluids regularly and voila, no major failures.....

You can't beat Toyotas. Nothing gives you more for your money. Period.

I owned a 99 Camry, it was an excellent car. If the vehicle was maintained and not abused you will be very happy with it. Just change the oil every 5000 miles.

I'm a 19 year old chick that drives a VW Jetta turbo with a stick shift. Why would you as a guy want a boring *** Camry for? Forget the reliability, the car is almost 15 model years old now.
