corrola's are not self adjusting rear brakes like on domestic vehicles. You have to adjust them yourself or have you local auto tech do it for you. If your hand brake is coming way up that means your rear brake are way out of adjustment.

It should self adjust by pulling the handle. If you have not been using the hand brake, try pulling the handle 20 to 30 times and see if it gets tighter. You may hear the adjusters clicking while pulling the handle. Otherwise you will have to have the rear shoes adjusted at the wheels.

no self adjusting on a corolla,uou need to lift the car remove plug behind the rear brakes and turn the adjusterstar wheel till its slights stops when you turn the wheel by hand,self adjusting,ha no way not on any corolla or any toyota at that
